Aurora Wallet Features: Modern Desktop Self-Custody
Aurora Wallet is the official desktop wallet for Auroracoin, developed under the Auroracoin Foundation in Iceland. It is built for one job: letting you hold, send and receive AUR on your own computer, with your own keys, without fighting the software to do it. Every feature below exists because real Auroracoin users ran into real problems with older wallets — and each one is designed to make sure those problems stay in the past.
Self-custody, by default
Aurora Wallet is a self-custody wallet. Your private keys are generated on your machine, encrypted on your machine, and never leave your machine. There is no account to create, no email to hand over, and no company server standing between you and your coins. The Auroracoin Foundation develops the software, but it cannot access your balance, freeze your funds, or reset your password — by design.
This matters because custodial services and browser-based wallets introduce a middleman who can be hacked, go offline, or simply disappear. With Aurora Wallet, your coins are yours in the most literal sense the technology allows.
A sync you can actually understand
One of the most common complaints about legacy Auroracoin wallets was staring at a stuck progress bar with no explanation. Aurora Wallet is designed around a clear, honest sync status:
- Multi-node connection. Instead of relying on a handful of hardcoded seed nodes that may have gone offline years ago, Aurora Wallet is designed to discover and fail over between multiple active peers automatically. If one node stops responding, the wallet moves on without you noticing.
- Headers-first synchronization. The wallet is designed to verify block headers before downloading full blocks, so you see a meaningful progress estimate in minutes rather than hours.
- Plain-language status. "Connecting to the network…", "Synchronizing: 64%, about 20 minutes remaining", "Fully synchronized" — no debug logs, no guessing.
Guided backup with recovery words
Aurora Wallet is designed around the modern BIP-39 recovery phrase standard: 12 or 24 words, written on paper, that can restore your entire wallet on any compatible device. The backup flow is guided — the wallet walks you through writing the words down, confirms you recorded them correctly, and explains in plain terms why this piece of paper matters more than any password.
For users coming from older Auroracoin software, Aurora Wallet is also designed to help you migrate: guided import and sweep tools for legacy wallet.dat files and paper wallet keys are planned, so coins held since 2014 are not stranded in formats modern software no longer reads.
A transaction history you can read
Legacy wallets showed raw transaction IDs and cryptographic addresses — fine for developers, meaningless for everyone else. Aurora Wallet presents your history the way a bank statement would: dates, amounts, labels you choose, and clear indicators for incoming, outgoing and pending transactions. Mining payouts can be labeled automatically, so a miner receiving dozens of small payments a day sees an organized ledger instead of a wall of hashes.
Modern interface, everyday speed
Aurora Wallet replaces the dated Qt interface of the original client with a clean, modern design: a prominent Receive screen with one-click address copy and QR codes, a send form that validates addresses before you can make a mistake, and sensible fee guidance so your transactions confirm without overpaying. It starts fast, runs light, and does not require you to store the entire blockchain archive unless you choose to.
Built on twelve years of history
Auroracoin launched in 2014 as one of the first national cryptocurrency experiments, and it has survived every market cycle since. Aurora Wallet carries that history forward with engineering that matches what users expect in 2026: reliable connections, honest status information, recoverable backups, and an interface that respects your time.
