Migrate to Aurora Wallet: Upgrade Old Auroracoin Wallets

Many Auroracoin holders are still using wallets that were built years ago. Some run the original Auroracoin Core program, which downloads the entire blockchain and can take days to catch up. Others keep coins in a browser extension or a multi-coin mobile app that no longer gets much attention. These wallets may still work, but they were not designed for how people use their computers today.

Moving to Aurora Wallet is not complicated. You do not need to copy secret files between programs or hand your keys to anyone. You create a new wallet, write down its recovery words and send your coins to it, just like paying yourself.

Why people move

Aurora Wallet is designed to connect through several network nodes at once, show clear sync progress and protect your wallet with a standard 12 or 24-word recovery phrase.

  • Waiting for sync. The legacy Core wallet must process the full blockchain before showing a correct balance. After long breaks, this can take many hours.
  • Connection problems. Old wallets depend on a short list of network contacts. When those go offline, the wallet sits at zero connections.
  • Outdated backups. Older wallets rely on a single wallet.dat file. Lose it, and the coins are gone.
  • Browser risk. Browser extensions share space with every website you visit and every add-on you install.

Choose your path

1

From Auroracoin Core

You run the original desktop program, sometimes called Auroracoin-Qt. This guide covers backing up wallet.dat, creating your new Aurora Wallet and sending your balance across, even if the old program has trouble connecting.

2

From a browser or mobile wallet

You hold Auroracoin in a browser extension or a third-party multi-coin app. This guide explains how to create a fresh desktop wallet and transfer your coins, and what to do if the old service has shut down.

The clean transfer method

Every migration guide on this site follows the same principle: create new, then send. You never import an old wallet file or old recovery words into Aurora Wallet as your main wallet. Instead:

This costs one ordinary network fee, and it means your coins end up protected by keys that have never been exposed to old software, old computers or old browser add-ons.

If your old wallet will not open at all, start with the recovery guides instead.

Wallet recovery guides

  1. Install Aurora Wallet from the official download page and check the file.
  2. Create a new wallet and write the recovery phrase on paper.
  3. Copy a receiving address from Aurora Wallet.
  4. Send your balance from the old wallet to that address.
  5. Wait for confirmations, then retire the old wallet.
