How to Create an Auroracoin Receiving Address & QR Code

To receive Auroracoin (AUR), you need a receiving address: a string of letters and numbers that tells the sender where to send coins. This guide explains what an Auroracoin address looks like, how to create one, how to share it safely as text or a QR code and how to check that a payment has arrived.

Some users of older Auroracoin wallets have reported that the option to create a new receiving address was hard to find or missing. If that sounds familiar, you are not doing anything wrong.

What an Auroracoin address looks like

Standard Auroracoin addresses usually begin with the capital letter A. They are long, mix upper and lower case letters with numbers, and are case-sensitive. A single wrong character makes an address invalid or points it somewhere else.

An address is public. It is safe to share with anyone who wants to pay you. It is completely different from your recovery words or private key, which must never be shared.

Only send Auroracoin to an Auroracoin address. Sending AUR to a Bitcoin, Litecoin or other address, or sending other coins to your AUR address, can result in permanent loss.

Why create a new address for each payment?

Your wallet can create many addresses, and all of them belong to the same wallet. Using a fresh address for each payment has two benefits:

Creating a new address costs nothing and does not move any coins.

  • Privacy. Anyone can look up an address on a public block explorer. Reusing one address lets people see all the payments linked to it.
  • Clarity. A separate address for each payer makes it easy to see who has paid you.

How to create a receiving address: step by step

  1. 1

    Open the receive section

In your wallet, open the Receive section. In Aurora Wallet this is designed to be a prominent button on the main screen [VERIFY-AT-LAUNCH: exact label].

  2. 2

    Add a label

Give the address a label, such as the name of the person paying you or what the payment is for. Labels stay on your computer only and help you read your history later.

  3. 3

    Create the address

Choose the option to create a new address. Your wallet shows the new address and, in most wallets, a QR code.

  4. 4

    Share it

Copy the address with the copy button rather than typing it out by hand. Paste it into your message, or let the sender scan the QR code with their phone or wallet.

  5. 5

    Double-check

Ask the sender to confirm the first and last few characters of the address before they pay. Malicious software sometimes swaps copied addresses on your clipboard, so checking is worth the few seconds it takes.

Sharing a QR code safely

A QR code is just your address in picture form. It is safe to share publicly, for example on an invoice or a donation page. Before you publish one, scan it yourself and check that it shows the correct address.

How to check that a payment arrived

If a payment seems stuck, see our stuck transactions guide.

  1. Open your transaction history and look for the incoming payment.
  2. Check the number of confirmations. Wait for several before treating it as final.
  3. If you do not see it, make sure your wallet is connected and fully synced.
  4. You can also look up your address on an Auroracoin block explorer.

Do old addresses still work?

Yes. Addresses created by your wallet remain valid. Coins sent to an old address still arrive in your wallet, provided you still have the wallet file or recovery words it came from.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to share my Auroracoin address? Yes. Addresses are public. Never share your recovery words or private keys.

Can I reuse the same address? You can, but a new address for each payment is better for privacy.

Why does my address start with A? Standard Auroracoin addresses begin with A. If an address for AUR looks completely different, check it carefully before using it.

I created an address but nothing arrived. Why? Your wallet may not be synced, or the sender has not sent yet. Check the address on a block explorer.
