Privacy Policy: Aurora Wallet & auroracoin.net
Last reviewed: 7 October 2026
This policy explains how the website auroracoin.net and the Aurora Wallet desktop software handle information. It is published by the Auroracoin Foundation, Iceland, which is responsible for this website. The short version: your wallet keys and recovery phrase never leave your device, and this website does not use advertising trackers or build profiles of visitors.
Your keys stay with you
Aurora Wallet is self-custody software. When you create a wallet, your private keys and recovery phrase are generated on your own computer and stored there. They are not sent to the Foundation, to the developers, or to any server we operate. We cannot see your keys, your recovery phrase, your wallet password or your wallet file, and we have no way to recover them for you.
Because we never hold these details, we will never ask for them. Any message, website or person asking for your recovery phrase or private keys — even one using our name or logo — is not us.
What this website collects
When you visit auroracoin.net, our web server processes the basic technical information that every web server receives: your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page or file requested, your browser type and the referring page. This information is used only to deliver the page to you and protect the website against abuse and attacks. The server does not keep access logs, so this information is not stored beyond the moment your request is handled.
This website does not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or third-party analytics that profile visitors. We do not sell, rent or trade any visitor information. If we ever introduce privacy-respecting statistics in future, this policy will be updated before that happens.
When you download the wallet installer, the download is served from this same website and handled in the same way as any other file request, with no record kept.
How the desktop app communicates
To show your balance and send payments, Aurora Wallet must talk to the Auroracoin network. It does this by connecting to network nodes and exchanging blockchain data. Like any peer-to-peer software, this means the nodes you connect to can see your computer's IP address and may be able to associate it with the transactions your wallet broadcasts or looks up. This is a property of public blockchains, not something the Foundation controls. If you want more privacy, you can use a trusted VPN or similar network tool, and use a fresh receiving address for each payment.
Remember that all transactions on the Auroracoin blockchain are public. Anyone can see the amounts and addresses involved, although addresses are not labelled with names.
Aurora Wallet does not send usage tracking or crash reports to us automatically. If a future version offers optional crash reporting, it will be switched off unless you choose to turn it on, and the release notes will say exactly what is sent.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection law — including the rules that apply in Iceland and the European Economic Area — may give you rights over personal information we hold, such as the right to access it, correct it or ask for it to be deleted. In practice, this website holds no personal information about you, because no server logs are kept and no tracking takes place. You also have the right to complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this website or the wallet handles information, we will update this page and the review date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned on the Updates page.
Contact
Auroracoin is a decentralized, open-source project, and this website is published by the Auroracoin Foundation, Iceland. Because the project holds no personal information about you, there is no data controller office to write to. General questions about the project can be raised through the public community channels linked from the About page. Please never include your recovery phrase, private keys or wallet file in any message — no one from the project will ever need them.
