Auroracoin Wallet Crashes on Launch: Safe Recovery Steps

You double-click your Auroracoin wallet and nothing happens. Or the window appears for a second and disappears. Or it freezes on the loading screen, or shows an error message you do not understand. This guide helps you protect your coins first, find the likely cause and get back to a working wallet.

Remember: a wallet app that crashes has not lost your coins. Your AUR is on the Auroracoin blockchain. What matters is that you keep your wallet file or your recovery words safe.

Before anything else: protect your wallet file

When a wallet will not open, people often try reinstalling, deleting folders or running "cleaner" tools. Any of these can remove the one file that gives you access to your coins.

Only continue once you have a backup.

  1. Close the wallet if it is frozen. Use Task Manager on Windows or Force Quit on macOS if you have to.
  2. Find your wallet data folder. In older Auroracoin Core wallets, the important file is called wallet.dat.
  3. Copy that file to a USB drive or another safe place. Copy it; do not move it.
  4. If you have recovery words, check that they are written down and readable.

Common reasons an Auroracoin wallet crashes

1

The app is too old for your operating system

Older Auroracoin wallet builds were made years ago. After major Windows, macOS or Linux updates, they may fail to start, crash when drawing the window or display strangely on modern high-resolution screens.

2

Damaged blockchain data

If your computer lost power or the disk filled up while the wallet was running, the downloaded blockchain data can be damaged. The wallet may crash every time it tries to load it. This data is separate from your wallet file and can be downloaded again.

3

Full disk

A full-node wallet stores a copy of the blockchain. If your disk is nearly full, the wallet may crash or refuse to start. Check your free space.

4

Security software interference

Antivirus programs can lock or quarantine wallet files, causing the app to crash on start. Check your antivirus quarantine list.

5

Two copies running at once

If a previous session did not close properly, a hidden copy of the wallet may still be running and block the new one. Restarting your computer clears this.

6

An unofficial or modified download

Wallets downloaded from unofficial sites may be broken or, worse, tampered with. If you are not sure where your copy came from, stop using it.

Step-by-step: getting back to a working wallet

  1. 1

    Restart your computer

It sounds simple, but it clears stuck processes and file locks. Try opening the wallet again afterwards.

  2. 2

    Free up disk space

Make sure you have plenty of free space on the drive where the wallet stores its data.

  3. 3

    Check your antivirus

Look in your antivirus history or quarantine for wallet files. Restore them only if the wallet came from the official source.

  4. 4

Rebuild blockchain data, never the wallet file

If the crash happens while loading, the downloaded chain data may be damaged. Removing only that chain data forces the wallet to download it again. Never remove wallet.dat. If you cannot tell the files apart, do not delete anything.

  5. 5

    Read the error message

Write down any error text. Messages mentioning "database", "corrupt" or "block index" usually point to damaged chain data. Messages about the wallet file itself mean you should rely on your backup.

  6. 6

Move your wallet to current software

If the old app still will not open, the software is likely the problem, not your coins. Your backup wallet file or recovery words can be opened in a current wallet.

  • Check itself on start. Run a startup self-check and explain any problem in plain language instead of closing silently.
  • Keep keys and chain data separate. Rebuild chain data with one click without touching your keys.
  • Look right on modern screens. Use a modern interface that works on high-resolution displays.
  • Import your old wallet. Guide you through bringing in an old wallet.dat file or private key.

Frequently asked questions

If I uninstall the wallet, do I lose my coins? Uninstalling the app usually does not remove the wallet data folder, but do not rely on that. Back up your wallet file first.

My wallet crashes and I have no backup. What now? Do not delete anything. Your wallet file is probably still on your computer. Copy the whole wallet data folder to a safe place, then try opening it in current wallet software.

Is a "wallet repair tool" from a forum safe? Be very careful. Never run tools from unknown sources, and never give anyone your wallet file, private keys or recovery words.

Can I open my old wallet on a new computer? Yes. Copy your wallet file to the new computer and import it, or restore with your recovery words.

Why does my wallet look blurry or tiny? Older builds were not designed for modern high-resolution screens. A current wallet solves this better than display tweaks.
